Fused Filament Fabrication Materials

Fused filament fabrication is a 3D printing tech that creates objects by layering melted plastic. It’s versatile and relatively cheap. Fused filament fabrication materials range from rigid to flexible and come in many colors and materials. As 3D printing advances, fused filament fabrication’s potential applications will grow.

Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) - ABS-M30

Choosing the right material for fused filament fabrication project.

When selecting the suitable material for your fused filament fabrication project, it’s crucial to consider each material’s unique properties and requirements. ABS-ESD7 is a convenient option for projects that require electrostatic discharge protection, while ABS-M30 offers high durability and strength. If you’re looking for a weather-resistant material for outdoor use, ASA is a good choice, while PC-ABS provides excellent impact and chemical resistance. Additionally, PC-ISO is a great choice if you need a biocompatible option for healthcare applications. For projects that require high-temperature resistance and strength, Ultem 9085 and Ultem 1010 are good options, with Ultem 1010 being ideal for food contact applications. Finally, Polycarbonate (PC) is an excellent optical clarity and heat resistance option. Ultimately, to choose the most suitable material for your project, you must consider the finished product’s specific requirements and intended use.

Material Description Learn More
ABS-ESD7
Is an ABS thermoplastic with static dissipative properties that are excellent for applications where a static charge can damage products, debilitate their performance, or cause an explosion.
ABS-M30

Has significantly stronger layer bonding than ABS and higher tensile, impact, and flexural strength. ABS-M30 parts are more durable, smoother, and have greater detail.

ASA
Is a thermoplastic that builds high-quality parts with excellent UV stability.
PC-ABS
Combines the flexibility of ABS with PC’s strength and heat resistance.
PC-ISO
Is strong thermoplastic, heat resistant, and biocompatible (gamma and ETO sterilizable and complies with ISO 10993 and USP Class VI standards).
Polycarbonate (PC)

Is a highly accurate, durable, and stable material that creates strong thermoplastic parts.

Ultem 1010

Is a resin that possesses high heat resistance and thermal stability, one of the strongest thermoplastics. It is biocompatible and approved for food contact (NSF 51 and ISO 10993/USP Class VI certifications.

Ultem 9085
Is a flame-retardant, high-performance thermoplastic featuring a high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent heat resistance, and high impact strength.
